Hello, and as we head into summer I’d like to jump on the Blues Society band wagons, and blues
venue clubs.   You know we all like to gig, and get as much stage time as we can.  What we all need to
do as blues enthusiasts is to get active, and support our local blues societies.   It is not okay to give
lip service to blues, and then ignore the folks and associations that spend a lot of labor of love for our
art form.   Publications, blues societies, and associations are entities established to perpetuate,
proclaim and propagate the continued interest in the American Musical Art Form – The Blues.   What
goes around comes around, and you got to put something into something to get something out of it.
Don’t be so cheap about it, and drop down ten bucks to join and support your local blues society.
Enough said, and I want to give you some Blues from Arkansas Below.  Keep on jammin’ them blues,
as it is music to my ears.
God Bless, and hang in there Cuz; Mike Dollins.  mike@mikedollins.biz

serious facelift to prepare for this upscale club experience. Odie’s will be open
Tuesday through Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. The club plans to open
for Sunday brunch in the near future.

The menu at Odie’s will have your mouth watering before you get in the door. On
tap are soups and salads, pasta, seafood and a selection of steaks and pork
chops. However, the signature entrée’s will be what sets Odie’s apart. On the
menu will be tempura battered pecan encrusted catfish with roasted fig and
apple honey BBQ sauce, shrimp and grits with tasso ham, rotisserie smoked
baby Cornish game hens smoked with cognac, honey and fresh herbs, beef
Wellington with mushroom bordelaise sauce and Doug’s specialty ribs.
Dinner will be served until 10:00 p.m. each evening. A late night menu will be
available for music fans and will include ribs and sliders.

The club will feature some kind of music every evening. Hot Springs piano
player Chuck Dodson will provide music in the lounge area of the club Tuesday

joining him during the week.

Thursday evenings
Mike Dollins and the Cruize Brothers will host a weekly blues
jam starting at 9:00 pm in the main room.
The weekends at Odie’s will be chock full of some of the best blues music from
around the country. The club kicks off with The Bluebirds from Shreveport,
Louisiana, on April 10-11. Following the Bluebirds will be the Stella Vees from

About unknown legends artists
In January, 2005, David and Sherree Hughes decided to help a couple of
musician friends get some gigs. Little did we know what we were about to get
into. What started out as a small operation has slowly evolved into the
Unknown Legends Artists music talent agency. From two acts, we have
grown ULA into a recognizable agency with over a dozen regular artists and
another dozen or so on top of that who we try to assist.

How did it all start? Besides having friends who needed some help, we both
have a passion for live music. Whether its here at home or in another city, we
are always looking for a taste of the local musical flavors. Hot Springs had too
many talented musicians who were not being heard. We decided to try to
help get their music out to the public. The rest is all too quickly becoming
history.

Unknown Legends Artists represents talent from all across Arkansas and
from several surrounding states. Our stable of talent is full of some of the best
musicians and entertainers in the country.

Unknown Legends Artists provides talent for night clubs, music festivals,
restaurants, private parties, corporate events, weddings and just about
anything else where entertainment is needed. The talent ranges from blues
to country to classic rock and everything in between. Regardless of what type
of event it is, Unknown Legends Artists has the talent to make it happen.

Most y’all that know me know I am a Les Paul nut.  I love 335’s too, and I always
have to keep a Telecaster hanging around – its what I grew up on.   After over 50
years of playing guitar, I think I know what I like to bang on all night at gigs.   Just
when life was grand, along comes a 2001 Gibson Double Cut Plus in my life.   I
never was into the DC LP much, but realized it was Gibson’s answer to PRS,
taking a Les Paul Junior and jacking it up with 490 & 498 Alnico Humbuckers,
triple AAA tiger stripped maple top, 60’s slim neck with 24 frets, joining the body
on the 22nd fret, kidney Grovers and a chambered body.   Now the word
chambered body kind of made me shy of even playing this guitar.  I took it to the
gig last Saturday, and wound up playing it all night long.  The chambered body
gives this guitar a little semi-hollow 335 howl on the neck pickup, and the tone
backed off a little.   Then when you need to growl and bite down hard, this guitar
will excite and make any modern amp stand up and bark.   The bridge pickup will
grind a runaway freight train to a halt in a heartbeat, and like a Corvette, you
gotta’ learn to lay off the accelerator peddle a little.   The double cut is light as a
feather, and at the end of the gig I didn’t have strap burn on my neck like with a
full sized Les Paul hunk of lead.   The neck is also smooth, easy, fast and I was
burning leads just as heard on the last song, as I was the first song.   With all this
newfound curiosity of this outstanding handsome guitar, I couldn’t find much on it
surfing for information.   The guitar was only produced for a few years, and
discontinued in favor of the Les Paul Jr. double cuts.   I reluctantly wrote Gibson’s
customer service via email.   Now y’all know Gibson is a big time, up Town
Corporation, and never really had a good rap that they were customer focused
and oriented.    Sit down on this folks, they quickly answered my questions about
my guitar, and invited me to join the Gibson email updates too.   Wow, is what I
told them.  A major entity stooping down on the ground to spend some time with a
street level, working blues musician.  How remarkable is that, and will new
amazements in life ever cease.   Here is the link about Gibson’s chambering
process on a few select guitars, and a link to get on the Gibson update email
list.

Two Arkansas blues pickers on their way up getting some recognition, stage time and
making some noise in the delta blues circuits here in the south, are Russell Rowland and
John Calvin Brewer.  Both can hold their own with the best of them, and are stand outs at
Odie's House of Blues Jam Sessions.  Click their photos to visit their MySpace sites.
Check them out, drop by and say hello and listen to their tracks.  I endorse both these two

I just scored a 1984 Fender Concert amp at the Chicago Vintage Guitar Show last month.  It was a closet classic, as it looked
brand new. Amazing for being 25 years old.  I could tell playing it that there was something totally different about this amp.
I've owned just about every kind of Fender, Mesa Boogie and Music Man amp known over the years, but this vintageFender
Concert with two 6L6's at 60 watts, and two ten inch CTS speakers was unlike anything I've played before.  After surfing on
the Internet for a couple days, I discovered that Fender hired Paul Rivera from 1981 top 1985 to help boost sagging Fender
amp sales. These Paul Rivera designed amps are like no other Fender amps, ever.  Check out the web links to find out more
about these amazing amps.  What you have is "Black Face" clean in channel one, and Mesa Boogie Mark II in Channel two.  With
the mid boost on, these amps purr. I've now got a great stage amp for jazz clean, and then channel switch for some overdrive
for boogie songs.  In fact, I just the Rivera era Concert in the studio last Sunday, and it was just great.  I hate stomp boxes,
and this was my answer; from real Fender clean to Mesa funky with one footswitch.  Here is an excerpt about the Paul Rivera
Fender amp venture:
PAUL RIVERA FENDER AMP HISTORY
The II Series (two series) Fender amplifiers were produced from 1982 until 1986. Many of the designs for these amplifiers
came from Paul Rivera and are known as Fender Rivera era amplifiers. Some amplifiers in the series used the II moniker such as
the Deluxe II and Twin II while others such as the Concert and Super Champ did not. Many of these amps had the normal
Fender clean sound and in addition a switchable mid voiced gain channel designed to compete with the Mesa Boogie Mark series
amps that had gained popularity at the time. See the Ampwares Fender Amp Guide at
http://www.ampwares.com/fender.asp or
the II Series schematic page at
http://www.geocities.com/twoseriesfenders/index.html. Most of the tube amps in the series
feature point to point wiring and are also becoming sought after collectors items due to the design and construction. There were
also some solid state amplifiers using the II moniker also but without the same tonal qualities or collectibility.
